Ex-MLA lands in trouble for 'killing monkey'

A former Congress MLA in Orissa has landed himself in trouble for killing a monkey.

Forest officials today exhumed body of the monkey which was buried behind former Begunia MLA Harihar Sahu's residence at Begunia village. Sahu had allegedly opened fire on the money from his licensed rifle yesterday, police sources said today.

According to Assistant Forest Conservator, Khurda Forest Division, Chittaranjan Mishra, the department got information regarding the cruelty against the animal this morning. 'Our officials exhumed the monkey's body. The body was sent for postmortem', he said.

Sahu while talking to the Forest officials admitted that he killed the monkey as it had turned wild. 'The monkey used to attack people who pass by him', Sahu told the Forest officials adding that he opened fire in self defence.

The Forest officials, however, took the incident seriously and are 'examining' the incident. Sahu could be booked under section 3 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, said an official.
